  2. Competition Schedule

    • Application Deadlines: Wednesday, May 1, 2019 ~ Wednesday, June 5, 2019

    • Asian Preliminary Competition will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Sunhwa Arts School in South Korea. For citizens of Asian countries, videos can be submitted on Youtube.

    • Competition will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Kirov Academy in Washington DC.

    • Winners’ Recital will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Another winners’ recital will be held at Moscow State Conservatory. (if requested by the winners)

  3. Eligibility

    • Seniors: age 17 ~ 32 (born after August 14, 1986, born before August 15, 2002)

    • Juniors: under age 17 (born after August 14, 2002)

  4. Competition Judges

    • Competition Chair: Yangsook Lee, Artistic Director of Kirov International Music Festival

    • Piano Competition Chair: Gary Graffman (Faculty at Curtis Institute)

    • Violin Competition Chair: Victor Danchenko (Faculty at the Glenn Gould School)

  5. Prizes

    • Seniors:

      • First prize winner $3,000

      • Second prize winner $2,000

      • Third prize winner $1,000

      • Audience prize $250

    • Juniors:

      • First prize winner $2,000

      • Second prize winner $1,000

      • Third prize winner $500

      • Audience prize $250

  6. Benefits for Winners

    • First prize winner: a free roundtrip ticket to Washington DC

    • Second prize winner: $1,000 provided for a plane ticket to Washington DC

    • Third prize winner: $500 won provided for a plane ticket to Washington DC

    • For all winners from the final (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place): free master classes (piano with Gary Graffman, violin with Victor Danchenko)

  7. Repertoire requirements

    • Piano

      • Preliminary: one classic standard solo work with any length

      • Final: minimum 20-minute solo repertoire including a fast movement of a classical sonata

    • Violin

      • Preliminary: one classic standard solo work with any length (accompanist not necessary)

      • Final:

        • Seniors: a complete concerto

        • Juniors: one fast and one slow movement from a concerto (two movements in total)

  8. Video Requirements

    • The video must clearly show the pianist’s face and hands in the frame at all times.

    • All videos must be shot from one angle with a single fixed camera (no zooming, tilting, or panning).

    • Every work on the video must be an unedited performance.

    • All videos must be privately recorded (formal performance videos not allowed).

    • All audition video files must be uploaded to the Youtube.

    • All works must be played from memory, with no music scores in evidence.

    • Solo performance only; no orchestral performance will be accepted.

    • Accompanists are not required for violin.
